Fall is here, and I am excited to share with you a recent delicious discovery. You might be surprised that I found it in the frozen food aisle at my favorite Walmart, but it is absolutely true. If you are craving some fall comfort food, you need to drop everything and go pick up a few boxes of Marie Callender’s Plant-Based Chick’n Pot Pie, made With Gardein Plant-Based Chick’n.

If you have been a faithful fan and follower of Momma Chef, you’re familiar with my mantra: no more than six ingredients & no more than six minutes prep, right?  But, what about those times when even six minutes of preparation seems out of reach?

That was me last week. I was in a bit of a time crunch, and I discovered this magical Marie Callender’s Plant-Based Chick’n Pot Pie, made With Gardein Plant-Based Chick’n a bit by accident when I was making an emergency grocery run. (Sidebar:  I’ve been l-o-v-i-n-g the expanded selection of nutritious frozen foods at my Walmart – it’s giving me some Whole Foods vibes without the high prices. Who knew?)  Anyway, I knew my boys were hungry, my husband was running late, and I had been tied up most of the day. I had no plan for dinner, and I needed something quick and satisfying. I threw a few options in my cart bit.ly/3i9UKWw and headed home.

Faced with a buffet of frozen food options, my youngest son (“I’m STARVING, Mom!”) chose the Marie Callender’s Plant-Based Chick’n Pot Pie, made With Gardein Plant-Based Chick’n and started his dinner before the rest of the crew. And, to borrow a quote from one of our favorite Indiana Jones movies, he chose … wisely. After catching a whiff of the captivating aroma, my other boys were soon hankering for their own pot pie. The thing is: my boys have surprisingly discerning palates for being preteen- and teenaged-eating machines. When their typical dinner bantering is replaced by audible noises of eating pleasure, Momma Chef notices.

Intrigued, I popped a box into the microwave for myself, and I’m happy to report that my boys were right: that little 15-ounce box contained a whole lot of yumminess. I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to a good flaky made-from-scratch pie crust, and Marie Callender did not disappoint. The crust was golden and flaky – my fork easily slid through the buttery layers. Underneath the crust, I found a satisfying blend of carrots, peas, and celery in a rich thick broth.

And what about the protein? You may have noticed the unusual spelling of “Chick’n” on the Marie Callender box— there’s a reason for that. You can indulge in a plant-based version of a comfort food favorite with Marie Callender’s Plant-Based Chick’n Pot Pie, made With Gardein Plant-Based Chick’n. Golden, flaky, made-from-scratch crust envelops seasoned Gardein Plant-Based Chick’n, carrots, celery and peas for a meat-free spin on a classic. Everywhere I look, it seems like plant-based proteins are trending — and there’s a reason for that, too! They’re absolutely delicious. That’s another reason why I wholeheartedly recommend the Plant-Based Chick’n Pot Pie. Not only is it soooooo yummy, it also provides a great opportunity for my family to choose a vegetarian meal. While we are definitely meat eaters, I do try and follow the guidelines in articles such as Mayo Clinic’s Meatless Meals: The Benefits of Eating Less Meals, including a few meatless options in my weekly menu- planning to try and make the best choices for my family.

When all three of my boys and my husband give something a thumbs up, you know you have a winner. For Momma Chef, its convenience frees me up to add a crisp green salad and throw together one of my favorite fall desserts like my simple and delicious apple crumble.

There are few foods more classic and satisfying for a crisp fall evening than a toasty and decadent pot pie. I’m thrilled that I can serve it more often by choosing Marie Callender’s Plant-Based Chick’n Pot Pie, made With Gardein Plant-Based Chick’n.

With just a tap of my finger, I can add some boxes of comfort food into my online grocery cart, zip over to Walmart, pick up my order, come home and deliver a piping hot meal to my family in just minutes. If you can enjoy creamy bites of lusciousness wrapped in a flaky golden crust after only minutes in the microwave, why not add it to your busy weeknight routine, too?
