Bringing our puppy home in 2015 was such a joyous occasion for our family. In a very short time, our dog Gingee became a beloved part of the family. She had her own playdates, I am embarrassed to say that she actually had more playdates than my own children and even made a best dog friend across the street, Luna. The first time we left her with friends, my kids cried the entire drive to the airport. I think they secretly wanted to leave sunny Florida to come back to the bitter cold Chicago just to be with Gingee. As you can imagine, my entire camera was filled only with photos of Gingee and the boys.
Then, last September our side gate was accidentally left open and Gingee ran across the street to see her friend Luna and was hit by a car. The outlook was not good, we had thought that we lost her. As you can imagine, it was extremely traumatic for our family, especially our children. With the help of our amazing neighbors (who let me shield my 5-year-old from seeing anything and brought Gingee to the local veterinary hospital) and the remarkable veterinarians, Gingee miraculously survived! The first two weeks home from the hospital were a little hit or miss, my oldest son noticed we were getting little coherent pieces of our Gingee back when he gave her human food. So, of course, he then made her omelets every morning until she finally came back to us!
Needless to say, with spoiling her after the accident and the creation of my blog, which meant cooking meals every night, she has not eaten much of her dog food the past year. ?
After doing much research in making sure which ingredients are safe for dogs, I am happy to be sharing these dog approved recipes with all of you! It's best not to give the dogs too much skin and fat and never give the dogs the any of the leftover bones (choking hazard ) or chocolate. Also, if your dog has a dairy allergy then skip putting in cheese in any the recipes. This food is intended as a treat and not to replace a dog's regular diet.
I hope your dogs enjoy these treats as much as Gingee does!
P.S. Gingee’s favorite meal is the London Broil, Simple Roasted Chicken and Meatballs, but who am I kidding, she happily devours all of it!
